– update –
it’s fixed now
we won our hockey game tonight 6-4. it was a really good game for the entire team. i twisted my knee and my ankle, but they’ll be fine in a few days.
i’m going to start playing on thursday nights down in greeley this week. we’ll see how it works out. i’m not sure about playing on sundays this next session. between being gone at least 1/4 of the time and really needing to rest on those weekends when i am here, i’m thinking of letting it slide till after the wedding.
speaking of which, things are progressing. we finally got to start the pre-marital counseling last week. it will be a bit of a struggle to schedule everything for that, but we’ll figure it out. we have most of the big stuff arranged, so there isn’t a lot of stress there for me, at least.
oh yeah, read this. about the only article about mel gibson’s ‘the passion of the Christ’ that i’ve read that made sense. to whet your appetite:
“When all is said and done, some of the critics are less bothered by the film itself than by the Gospel accounts on which it is based, Gibson is not accused of seriously distorting those accounts but of taking them too seriously. This leads directly into the other controversy which lies barely beneath the surface — the continuing tension between orthodox and liberal Christians.”
this was a fun weekend, until the drive back. when i was about halfway through nebraska, the signs on the side of i-80 started telling us drivers that i-80 was closed west of mile #103, but that i-76 was open to colorado. no problem, they wouldn’t leave i-76 open if it wasn’t unpassable. i suppose, by definition, it was passable since i did pass through it, but i would hate to have seen i-80 if it was actually worse.
i’m too tired to remember very many details. high winds, white-out conditions, and icy roads are the highlights. and why am i too tired? because while i should have gotten home around 12:30 am, instead i got home about 7:30 am. my nine hour trip took sixteen hours. well, that does include two one hour naps, so really it was fourteen hours of driving. i got home and passed out.
now i need to go to work. i’ll try to remember to write about the weekend itself later.
trip went well. unfortunately there were a couple people we weren’t able to meet up there, though. overall it was fairly uneventful, just a pleasant trip with laure.
the trip back to des moines was not much fun, though. it started snowing in rochester sunday morning, and was still snowing today at noon when we left. I-35 was closed in MN, so we had to take some little US and county highways to get from austin, MN to I-35 in IA. It took us over 2 hours to get a rest area that should have taken 1 hour. anyway, I-35 in IA wasn’t very good, either. a lot of the driving was just on a sheet of ice. but, God kept us safe, and gave us exactly as much time as we needed: we got to the airport at 5:35, which gave me just enough time to go up to the check-in desk, run to the security checkpoint, get through (with my keys in my pocketses) and walk quickly to the gate. i was the next to last person who boarded. oh yes, i almost forgot to mention this. after we got onto I-35 in IA, the ‘check engine’ light came on in laure’s minivan. oil, temp, and charge were fine, so we kept going. the transmission seemed to do some strange things (didn’t want to choose a gear around 55-60 mph), but it wasn’t problematic. it held out just long enough for laure to get to her apartment.
now, i’m exhausted, and i’m going to bed.
