  • went melon bowling last night. what’s melon bowling, you ask? ah, my friend, you have been missing out. it’s very simple, you go down the highway at about 70 mph, sticking your upper body out of the window, then you bowl a melon in front of the car. “wow, jonathan, that sounds exciting,” you say. WELL, the cool part is that the melon explodes, not from the impact, but from the centrifugal forces as it rolls down the highway. the pieces go close to 6 feet in the air. the melon just disintegrates. it is a lot of fun.

here’s to exploiting physics for our own entertainment!

  • made it back to fort collins a few hours ago after spending the weekend in iowa with laure. i grow tired of these short visits, but i appreciate them very much. we are slowly getting more of the details worked out w.r.t. where things will be happening. Hopefully in the next couple days that will be set. i’ll be a lot less worried when we have someplace to go after the ceremony rather then just hanging out in the parking lot at the church. that wouldn’t be much fun. i’d wish for this to become less frustrating, but i doubt that will happen until after the ceremony. actually, the frustration is so minor that i should probably stop talking about it.

gemini had fun this weekend staying with one of my friends from work and his dog. the two dogs spent most of the time out in the yard wrestling. you’d think that would make gemini tired, but it doesn’t seem to work. she was running around like a beheaded chicken once we got home. where she gets all of this energy from is beyond me. perhaps i should start overfeeding her to make her extremely fat so she uses all of her energy just standing up.

time for bed, methinks. i’m passing out as i type this. i bet it makes less sense in the morning.

  • I guess I’ve just been lurking, lately. Let’s see what I can do about that.

Truthfully, most of the people reading this know everything that is going on. I’ve been engaged since December 23rd to the most wonderful woman on the planet. We are planning to be married on September 18, 2004. Right now I’m trying to wrap my head around that concept. Two months ago, I didn’t see myself getting married for a long, long time, if ever, so this has been quite a change. Now, looking a little more than 8 months into the future, I will no longer be coming home to a dog, but to a wife (and a dog and a cat, but they are irrelevant). I’m trying to wrap my head around this. I’ve been experiencing a strange combination of joy, fear, elation, intimidation, love, frustration, paralyzation, and excitement. Mostly the good ones, of course.

Right now we are trying to figure out what to do for the reception/where to have it. (I do mean right now. I am on the phone with Laure as I type this.)

That’s about it. This has been consuming all of my thoughts outside of work.

  • Made it back to Fort Collins.

  • I saw The Return of the King again last night. It did not make me mad this time. I still maintain that for the most part it was a different story with characters and places that happened to have the same names as those given in a book written 50 years ago by some guy named J. R. R. Tolkien, but it was much, much less abhorrent than what Peter Jackson did to The Two Towers.

Now, READ THE BOOKS! You have no excuse. Darn lazy kids.

  • made it to indiana.

  • This was, without a doubt, the best weekend of my life. Even though I had a cold, even though it was freezing in the mountains, even though it was snowy and cloudy and Laure and I couldn’t see much of anything in Rocky Mountain National Park, it was, without a doubt, the best weekend of my life.

    Why?

Because I was with Laure, and that made us both extremely happy.

    See you next week, suckers!

  • This was forwarded to me at work today. Truly sick people doing sick things with their motorcycles. 750 lb cruisers are NOT dirt bikes!

We stand on the shoulders of giants.

  • Ah. Sleep. That was a wonderful thing.

  • I can’t sleep!
