I mostly read on Friday. It’s a fascinating book called “First Theology: God, Scripture and Hermeneutics”. The chapter I read on Friday was about how the doctrine of the Trinity affects how Christians engage in discussions on theologies of religion. The conclusion of the author, to paraphrase probably very badly, is that God’s actions in narrative reveal to us a God who is defined by character, not by attributes (like perfect, all-powerful, etc.) Those attributes apply, but to start from them (like people pursuing a pluralistic theology of religion) renders a dull, impersonal God much different from the God who makes and keep covenant. God’s revelation of Himself within the biblical narrative then defines a character who is distinct and therefore incompatible from the boring pluralistic god.
Fun stuff, but a very slow read.
